The tam-tam player is crazy.

The most interesting thing to me is the way that the two loops, when out of phase, effectively create sounds that are new: blips, chirps hums that the human ear hears when two particular sounds come together. In the piece these keep changing in nature as the phase cycles

i love the opening of this piece. it's just so iconic and recognizable.

This magnificent symphony plumbs the depth of the soul. One beautiful melody after another. Marvelous recording, with superb sound. I wonder if anyone recorded this work observing the repeat in the exposition? Thanks for making it available with the score.

Come Out To Show Them was a great idea. I took a summer course from Reich at University of New Mexico and he opened my eyes to new things in music. That was a great memory, back in 1968.

Why does the score indicate "tutti" in the violins but "tutte" in the violas? Also, "solo" vs "sola"? Why different for violas?

Tonal music as worldly,strange,euphoric,full of surprises sound like it should be written for pan flute,atmospheric,fantastical as fun,momentous,eventful as any Boulezian atonal,athematic score. Its a revelation a thing ill try in my music themes that dont sound like melodies or themes but they are indeed hummable lively packages of notes!I will copy him n I w instead of EuropeanBoulez and others.
